It is the capital of north Palestine, lying at latitude 32, 13, some 65 km. (40 miles) north of Jerusalem. The area of the city stretches along the wadi which rises between 280 - 500 m. above sea level, surrounded by Eibal mountain on the northern side, which rises about 940 m. above sea level, and Jarzeem mountain, whose summit rises about 840 m. above sea level.
Pottery dating back to the Bronze Age indicated that Nablus was first established in the Chalcolithic period (Stone-Ancient Greek & Bronze); dating around 4500 BC. Later the Can’anite tribes who came from the Arabian Peninsula were the first people to inhabit this region. They called it Shakeem, which means either shoulder or highland.
The application has been created as a tourist guide for Palestinian cities, starting with Nablus city, in Arabic and English by the Old Cities Jerusalem Revitalization Program – Taawon and funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.
