Local Customs

Nabulsi people normally notice visitors from outside the city, especially the shopkeepers inside the old city who consider it quite normal to talk to them, ask them where they come from, and what their names are. This is a normal part of the local culture, and far from indicating a desire to be intrusive is in fact their way of welcoming you. Such brief exchanges can easily be ended by a smile, should you wish.

Nablus is a socially conservative city, and we recommend that you dress modestly.  Visitors should avoid eating food in front of the general public in Ramadan’s “month of fasting”, and it is not allowed to drink alcohol in public places.
