There are quite a number of restaurants in the city. They are of all levels, and they provide a versatile range of foods and beverages. Their locations are scattered throughout the city. The number of shops and restaurants providing this service, which are licensed by the Municipality of Nablus, is 205. There are also several traditional bakeries within the old city. The visitor can buy fresh bread from them; such as, manaqeesh (baked bread with thyme “Za’tar” and oil, cheese or egg). There are also a number of restaurants inside the old city. They provide special meals in the morning, perhaps the most famous of which are chickpeas “Hummus”, flavia, falafel, Khiltah, baba ghannoug “baked eggplants with tahina”, garlic pie, tamriyyeh, zalabyeh with sweetened pumpkin, and tahina sweet and iris.
With regard to the special foods for which Nablus is famous, al-Akkoub “wild thorny plant” is at the top of this list, Manadeel, trays of kufta “fried minced meat” with tahina or tomatoes, kubbeh, green stew, akkawieh stew, boiled, and chip potatoes. In addition, there are various popular dishes that are common in Palestine. These include zucchini, yalangi “stuffed grape leaves” etc. Most famous restaurants for traditional food Ajaj, At-titi, and Muntada Rita inside the old city.
Visitors will want to try Nabulsi sweets. The most famous of these are: kunafah, soft, rough or borma types. Then there are kullaj; qatayef; pumpkin candy, and tahina sweets. Finally you can choose baqlawa, lady cheeks, surret bint al-Malik, crow’s nest, ballourya, borma, pie, and lady lips.
